MR. UNSTABLE: ALTERNATIVE BAND

Some of us read books, practice yoga, maybe take medication and/ or perform meditation to be "stable." Not this brave, talented, musician; he is raw, in your face, and puts it all out there.   I give you....

                       Mr. UNSTABLE

Although, he's not as "unstable" as you may assume, or how he may appear, rather he is a very talented, insightful intellectual. He is a musician, singer, guitarist, and songwriter, who categories his music as Horrorcore, Nerdcore, and Sic Hop.

Here is our interview:

Who inspired your music and to be Mr. Unstable?

"I'm inspired to be Mr. UNSTABLE and to make music by a few things. The biggest are Life and death and the need to escape them. Growing up, I loved all music and horror films, I used those to cope with being an outcast. I draw influence from many different genres of musicians but have mainly been moved by people who take the extra step of using dark themes & theatrics in the art, look and performance. From Screamin' Jay Hawkins to Arthur Brown, From Alice Cooper to Kiss, From Parliament-Funkadelic to The Misfits, From The Mentors to N.W.A, From King Diamond to GWAR, From GG Allin to Mr.Bungle, From Green Jello to The Flatlinerz, From Body Count to Esham, From Insane Clown Posse to Marilyn Manson, From Slipknot to Hogscraper, From Mindless Self Indulgence to Mushroomhead and everything in between all the way up to Ghost, currently."

What do you feel is wrong with, or lacking, in "Today's" music?

"I think music is what it's always been. The film and fluff are on top leaving all the good stuff below. The mainstream still forces manufactured music on the masses but if you get out in the clubs and see acts perform, you will find that music is alive and well. It's just buried in the underground."

Where did you perform your first gig? And When?

"I played my first live show at Bogart's in Cincinnati, 1993. It was a 'Battle of the Bands,' and we were kicked out the competition, and physically thrown out of the competition because of our 'offensive and nudity laced' stage show."

When did you know, or decide, to be a musician? What was your first instrument?

"I decided to be a musician at the age of 4 yrs old. There was never a doubt about it, I was born to rock. My parents weren't as convinced. With that being said, I got my first instrument when I was 13 yrs old. It was a guitar, a Jackson 'Flying V.' I thought I was so metal, ha ha."

How do you feel about the indie scene?

"I think being independent is a thriving wonderland right now, as long as you have the music in you.  There has actually never been a better time to be in the indie scene. With the internet, your only limitations are the ones you set for yourself."

JOE BAILEY: FINE ARTIST

If you're going for a cup of coffee, strolling through the park, or catching an indie band, chances are you will see Mr. Joe Bailey. His presence, his laugh, his smile are infectious. By first glance, you can instantly feel his passion. Joe's preferred medium is graphite pastel and colored pencil.  No matter where he roams, you will always see him with his tools; backpack, art box, and sketchbook. They are his lifeline, and a part of his soul like any true artist.

"I am a traveling artist"... " My favorite spots are Findley Market, Washington Park and Wine Lab."

As he describes from many years ago, his first piece sold was a drawing of " a woman with an image of the earth in the background." Being an Artist is his career, "I have no other job than Art."

As he gathers his tools, carefully organizing and putting them safely in his bag, he humbly replies how he feels about those who have been so supportive of his work, "how I make it is by the support of the people. My biggest supporter is my Mom!" Another reason to appreciate Joe, his kind heart.

" By the grace of God, this is my gift. I decided to open it up. The more I feel , the more I am being blessed."

"I take in everyday life, and it's everyday surroundings."

"What helps keep me driven is the appreciation of others and to also showcase the youth."

Joe Bailey's style is unique, textured, soulful and, most importantly, to be enjoyed. He lives each day as it comes. As he says with a grin, "Art makes every other activity more exciting."

Be on the lookout for Mr. Bailey, you won't be disappointed. Please show your support to local artists!

MARK ZERO: GUITARIST and ARTIST

Mark Dunbar, also known as  "Mark Zero"... I met Mark through a dear, close close friend, Christopher Glandorf; also, a fellow musician of the Northside community who passed away at the young age of 43. We were all watching the film, River's Edge, starring Dennis Hopper. Mark was quiet, yet unique and interesting, as he always appears. He is locked in his own world, just full of creativity. If you ever meet Mark, you will understand what I mean. He is a very kind soul with many talents, including vocals, guitar, banjo, pretty much any stringed instrument, drawing and painting.

For every interview, I always ask 5 basic questions, how I use those questions depends with each individual. We decided to have a simple Q & A.

Me: Who inspires your music?

Mark: "Dogs inspires my music!"

Me: What else do you do when you are not making music?

Mark: "Riding my bike is a thing I do, besides music."

Me: When did you start playing music? How did you get started?

Mark: "I got my first guitar and started playing it when I was 14!" "I started banging on it as soon as I got it!"

Me: Where are you from?

Mark: "Always lived here with my mom in Northside, so that's where I'm from."

Mark Dunbar may be a man of few words, but how he expresses it through his music, and his art, is much more extensive. Mark has always been a part of the Cincinnati music scene, and consistently shows his unconditional support. You can find him playing solo mostly around the Northside area and many local places like The Listing Loon and The Comet. Mark has played with numerous bands over the years including the popular Fairmount Girls. Also, you can always find him participating in many music festivals.

On a personal note, thank you Mark for always being so sweet and for singing Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" every time I requested it. No one sings it like you....

See you on the wild side.

BOBBY MACKEY'S "HAUNTED" MUSIC WORLD (Part 2)

In 1978, Bobby Mackey opened up his club, Bobby Mackey's Music World. It has been called, "one of the 10 most haunted places in the country."

Here's the sign you'll see when you first enter the club.

Before it was created into the traditional country nightclub it is today, Bobby Mackey's Music World originally was a slaughterhouse in the 1800's. According to the history, it is documented that, in 1896, a young lady named Pearl Bryan was murdered nearby. Her body was found decapitated, and, although it was never found nor proven, some believe her head was left in the slaughterhouse in, what is known as, "hell's gate." It is a broken concrete area in the basement of the nightclub, which has a tunnel that leads outside. She was murdered by Scott Jackson with an accomplice, Alonzo Walling, who claimed he was innocent all the way until their death by hanging.

The slaughterhouse later became vacant for a number of years. Then, by the 1950's, the slaughterhouse had became a casino and nightclub called, "The Primrose." The owners were an east coast mafia who were operating a casino, along with other illegal activity that took place downstairs. The legend goes that a dancer named, "Johanna," hanged herself in her dressing room, located in the basement. It is said that her father murdered her lover, Robert Randall, a singer at the club, and she was devastated.

These two events have been reported to cause an incredible disturbance throughout the years in the Bobby Mackey's Music World. Mr. Mackey had no idea what he was in for when he took over the nightclub. There are numerous cases where patrons, a grounds keeper Carl Lawson, including Bobby's deceased wife Janet Mackey, who all spoke of the images, sounds, and feelings they've experienced caused by the supernatural.

Here is a video from the tv show "Ghost Adventures" that show more in-depth conversations and investigations about the club:

COUNTRY SINGER MR. BOBBY MACKEY (Part 1)

Artist: Bobby Mackey (part 1)

In 2010, I was watching the TV show Ghost Adventures and saw Bobby Mackey's Music World being "investigated." My Mom had always wanted me to go there, and so I decided to check it out.

Before I go any further, let me tell you about Mr. Bobby Mackey. He was born in Concord, Kentucky; married to Denise Durnell Mackey. A very talented, humble, friendly, traditional Country Singer, who has sang with stars such as George Jones and Merle Haggard. He won his first Talent Show at the age of 4 years old. His hobby was songwriting.

In 1970, he had been laid off from working on the railroad. Bobby decided to take his hobby and created a full time job singing. He saved his money, and in 1978, he opened up what has became known as Bobby Mackey's Music World. Due to the club's history, it is "one of the 10 most haunted places in America." But I will get to that later...

Bobby can be heard playing on Fridays and Saturdays at the club. He also gives guest appearances around the Tri-State area. He has been on numerous radio stations, television stations, including shows like The Geraldo Rivera Show, Ghost Hunters, A Haunting, and many others. Folks are intrigued by his traditional country music, and the history of his club.

You can enjoy Bobby's music live by visiting the club on Fridays and Saturdays.

Here is his newest song, "Lucille" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfFvGhDfFfQ

LE TECHNOPUSS13s: ALTERNATIVE BAND

LE TECHNOPUSS13s

"Le Technopuss13s," describe themselves as the, "Queen City's favorite electro noise-pop fashionistas."  With band members, Vinny, lead singer and co-songwriter; and Jamie Thorman, songwriter, guitarist, and keyboards.

In 2006, New Year's Eve they were headlining at the Northside Tavern. Everyone was gathered in the front room (before the back room was built). Standing on bar stools, and leaning over each others' shoulders in anticipation to hear and feel the energy the Le Technopuss13s bring to the stage. Jamie, dressed in his 80's-ish futuristic outfit, waving his guitar sending out this magnetic sound. Vinny was dressed as "Elvis,"  with her glamorous side burns and shiny outfit. A free spirit with such boldness; her head tilted back, as she power housed the lyrics. They gave a performance that did NOT disappoint.

After 2010, they took a sabatical for a few years, and then in 2014, they gave a surprise appearance at The Comet. The crowd was anxious for their performance and the reunion show was a success. They played their little pink heart out!  So check out the Le Technopuss13s' music on YouTube, show your support to local bands by going to their shows and giving their facebook page a "LIKE."  For over a decade, they have performed all-around Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky indie music hot spots like Top Cat's, The Comet, Northside Tavern, Southgate House, and many more. Playing hits like "Pills," and "Little Pink Heart."  They've made appearances at many events, including the annual "80's Pop Rocks", an AIDS benefit held at the Southgate House (now called Southgate House Revival).

WELCOME TO CINCY STREETS!

This is my personal blog about music, art, and film by artists, organizations and events going on around the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area.  The blog will be updated monthly and/or bi-weekly.

First, a little about myself...

Hello! My name is Natalie Henry, owner of ProudCherokee Productions. I am a coat of many colors, you might say. Since I graduated from High School and Scarlet Oaks Vocational in 1991, my experience has been in the tv, film, theatre, art and music industries for many, many years. I have a certificate in Television Communications, an Associates from UC DAAP in Fine Arts, and studied at Wright State University for Motion Picture. I've worked on major motion pictures, numerous short films, Floor Director for WLWT Channel 5, directed one-act plays, art shows, and in 2002 created my band Pilar.  I played rhythm guitar and was the lead singer in my band until 2005, when my siblings and I found out our mom had ovarian cancer. Everything was put on hold and two years later,  we lost our mother Janie Henry. We miss her dearly.

In 2010, by divine intervention, I met Robert Seifert who introduced me to promoting. R.J., as he goes by, is the manager and promoter for country singer Mr. Bobby Mackey.  From there, I began promoting, booking and creating events for bands, musicians, reality stars, dj events, and benefits. Today, I continue with videography, filmmaking, writing and casting with my productions.  I decided to take all of my experiences and numerous gracious opportunities and share them with you.

SO with that being said, let's get this blog on the road!
